Size: 700ML
Proof: 122.8 (61.9%ABV)
Origin: Scotland
Distillery: Aultmore
This 14-year-old Aultmore was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2025 by Signatory Vintage. It was finished in a second-fill Pedro Ximnez sherry hogshead before being bottled at a mighty 61.9% ABV, with no chill-filtration or added colour. A bold and rich single cask expression with just 340 bottles released, ideal for fans of powerful Speyside whisky.
Nose: PX sweetness comes through in waves with dates, sultanas, brown sugar, and a hint of treacle tart. Dried apple, polished oak, and cinnamon sticks.
Palate: Chewy raisins, dark honey, clove, and gingerbread, followed by notes of walnut cake and black cherry jam.
Finish: Chocolate truffle, dried fig, and a lingering hum of spice and toasted oak.
The distillery was built in 1895 by Benrinnes-owner Alexander Edward, who sited it just north of Keith in the heart of Speyside. Just two years later, the company was under the management of Oban & Aultmore Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd and production was greatly increased with the addition of a steam engine to power the facilities – in fact the distillery would employ the ten horsepower steam engine twenty-four hours a day for the next seventy years. Following the Pattison Crisis, Aultmore (pronounced Ollt-MORE) closed for several years. The distillery briefly reopened in 1903, but was forced into closure once more owing to the barley shortage during the First World War. In 1923, the distillery was acquired by John Dewar & Sons for 20,000 and, two years later, became part of Distillers Company Limited, today a subsidiary of Diageo.
