  • The wine Argiano, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG represents an impressive combination of the most successful vintage and elegant, modern style. Its striking structure is combined with intensity and hard tannins. The Arjaniano winery created this wine to celebrate the extremely successful year for Brunello. Circulation of Arjiano, Brunello di Montalcino Reserve is limited. Leading wine critics recommend drinking it from 2020 and up until 2035.

Winemakers Brunello region called the 2010 season is not only a miracle, and this year’s wines – the best for the century. Vines Sangiovese received an ideal combination of climatic conditions, which provided a slow and full ripening of berries. The season began with a rainy winter, flowing into wet autumn. July was extremely dry. Technical maturation of grapes went shoulder to shoulder with polyphenolic, which in other years happens rarely. Hot August contributed to the accumulation of berries of coloring substances. Another feature of 2010 was the fact that the grapes were ripe during the active vine growing season. Critics believe that for 20-30 years, this vintage will become the embodiment of refinement and winemaking.

The owner of “Argiano” , one of the most famous and popular wine farms in Italy, is the Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano. In search of a better place for the production of high quality wines, Chinzano opted for Villa Argiano. And I was absolutely right. Located in a picturesque medieval village not far from Montalcino, this ancient place is covered with legends. It is here, according to legend, the sages were looking for the legendary altar of the Roman god Janus (“Ara Jani” in translation means “Janus altar”). During the Renaissance, the noble Pekka family from Sienna built a magnificent villa called Argiano on a wonderful hill. For a long time the local nobility used wines produced from the vineyards of the castle, for their own pleasure. 1992 was a turning point in the history of the winery. Having bought the estate, the Countess “revived” it and put a lot of effort into making Argiano’s wines one of the best in the region. Today it produces traditional Tuscan wines – Brunello and Rosso, and super-Tuscan wines – “Solengo” and “Suolo”.

The winery owns an area of 100 hectares, 48 hectares of vineyards and 10 hectares of olive trees. The vineyards of Arjiano have an enviable location with a favorable microclimate. Vineyards are located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, so even in the summer months there are cool nights. The moderate amount of precipitation in Montalcino contributes to a better maturation of the grapes, which allows obtaining wines with a higher concentration in taste and a rich flavor. The influence of warm Maremma (the coastal region of Tuscany) creates unique conditions for the slow maturation of grapes, and located near the mountain of Amiata (one of the highest mountains of Tuscany) protects vineyards from bad weather. Soils, consisting of marly limestone and clay, retain moisture well, which is an ideal condition for the development of the Sangiovese grape variety. Grapes are collected only by hand. Fermentation is carried out in steel tanks on natural yeast at a controlled temperature of 20-25 C for 2-3 weeks. Withstand wine in annual barricks from Burgundy, and then in casks of Slovenian oak (for traditional wines), and only in new Burgundian barriques – for “Solengo”.

The famous European specialist Giacomo Takis was invited as an enologist of the restored estate. It was he who produced the first super-Tuscan wine “Solengo”, which entered the “Top 100” of the great Wine Spectator wines. No less talented and experienced Danish enologist Hans Viding-Diers replaced Takis after his retirement. Having behind him the experience of working in the best wineries in Europe, Australia, South America and South Africa, Hans brought a touch of refined and elegant style to the wines of Arjiano. The philosophy of Viding-Diers is simple – minimal interference with natural processes and expression of the magnificent characteristics of the Montalcino terroir in wines. Thanks to this, Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino wines from Sangiovese grape are considered the best wines of Tuscany, and critics mark them only with the highest scores.
