  • Supertuscan delightful wine “Ile Blue” – the flagship of the winery La Brankayya showing elegance, complexity and intensity of flavor. Since the first vintage in 1988 fell into the wine list of the best wines from the Gambero Rosso, since “Or Blue” consistently gets high marks world experts and wine critics.

    For the production of “Il Blu” crop is harvested from two vineyards: “Brankayya” in Castellina in Chianti and “Poppy” in Radda in Chianti, located at an altitude of 230-400 meters above sea level. Vineyards with a total area of 24 hectares, grown on poor, rocky soils containing clay and limestone are the southern, south-western and south-eastern exposure. Stocking density – 6000 vines / ha. The grapes are harvested by hand in late September-early October. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration are carried out at a temperature of 28-30 C in a temperature-controlled steel tanks for 20-25 days. Part of the must is fermented in oak barriques. Wine stand for 18-20 months in oak barrels, of which 2/3 – new, third – the second year of use. After bottling, the wine is left to ripen another 4 to 6 months in the cellars of the economy. The wine has excellent potential storage – 15-20 years.

    Estate Brankayya uniting two names – Branca and Poppy, since 1981 has a couple from Switzerland – Brigitte and Bruno Widmer. In the production of wine they cooperate with Martin Widmer Cronenberg. Since 1983, when one of the wines received the first prize in a local competition, the production are successful. Today wine “La Brankayya” are among connoisseurs of classical and production is based on principles such as the search for self-identity and commitment to quality.
    Martin is responsible for the management of the company, while Barbara, an experienced winemaker, is responsible for the production of wines. Wine consultant is the famous Dr. Carlo Ferrini. Today Brankayya produces four wines: “Il Blue,” “Chianti Classico”, “Tre” and “Ilatrayya.”
