  • The Cambridge Crossing wine line is dedicated to the most important Australian wine trade route. Once the barrels were rafted along the Cam River to the coast for further export to England, to Cambridge. Cambridge Crossing wines are made by Free Run Juice , one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries and part of Yalumba Corporation.

“Cambridge Crossing” Shiraz – a bright fruity-spicy wine made from Shiraz grapes grown in South Australia. Vineyards are located on the banks of the Murray River. Vintage for wine production was harvested mechanically from areas with light soils and gentle slopes. This made it possible to create a rather delicate, fresh and aromatic wine. The average age of the vines is 25 years. Grapes are removed from the vines as the berries ripen, preventing them from overriding. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 22-26 C for a week. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for a short time in steel tanks.

Yalumba is one of Australia’s most successful wine companies, founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, an English brewer who, in search of a new life, moved with his family to the green continent from the British Isles. Smith bought 30 acres of land in the southeast of Angaston and named the site “Yalumba”, which is translated from the language of the Aboriginal people, “all land around.” In 1985, Robert Smith, representative of the 6th generation of this family, became the managing director of the company. The success and current position of the company in the market are associated with his name.

Peter Wall, the chief winemaker of the company, conquered by Rhone grape varieties, was obsessed with the idea of creating wines from Shiraz and Viognier. In 1979, he planted the first Viognier vines on an area of only 1.2 hectares, now this vineyard has reached a record 29 hectares and is the largest Viognier vineyard in Australia.
The Yalumba Company is a visiting card of the Barossa Valley. The production of wines from Shiraz and Viognier varieties is the main component of the company’s success. Today, the combination of these two varieties is very fashionable among winemakers in Australia. Yalumba is one of the few wine producers in the world, also engaged in the manufacture of its own barrels, which are made according to old technology.
