Wine Crocus, “L’Atelier” Malbec de Cahors AOC, 2018

Introduction

Crocus, “L’Atelier” Malbec de Cahors AOC is a rich red dry wine, which is the embodiment of authentic Cahorsky Malbec and modern trends, characterized by a balance of bright fruit shades, dense texture and harmonious acidity. The name “atelier” symbolizes the workshop of an artisan who, through his creativity, creates a real wine art, embodying in Malbec a structure and elegance, as unique as the ancient soil of the Cahors terroir.
Crocus “L’Atelier” is a blend of wines from two vineyards – Chateaux de Haute-Serre and Mercues. The first is located in the valley, open to the sun’s rays, the surface of the clay soil is strewn with stones. Mercues is located on the third terrace of the Lot Valley, where the poor, sandy-clayey soils have excellent drainage. After manual harvesting, the grapes are passed through a press, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, where the wine is aged further for 9 months and another 7 months in a bottle.

In 2016 , it was a wet spring in Cahors, but with the arrival of summer, warm and dry weather set in, creating ideal conditions for the ripening of grapes. September was also drier than in previous years, which allowed the berries to acquire concentrated fruit flavors. The rain “refreshed” the vineyards and accelerated the ripening of the grapes. The crop was harvested on September 22-23.
