Wine Crocus, “Le Calcifere” Malbec de Cahors AOC, 2014

Introduction

Crocus, “Le Calcifere” Malbec de Cahors AOC is a full-bodied dry red wine that embodies the traditions of the Cahors wine region and combines the styles of the three terroirs of the Lot Valley. The name “Le Calcifere” translated from French literally means “one that contains lime”, which directly indicates the composition of the soil of the vineyards. After manual harvesting, the grapes are passed through a press, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new.

Spring began smoothly in 2015 in Cahor, with temperatures above average in April and May, with little rainfall. In June, the weather was exceptionally sunny, favorable for flowering. Good weather conditions lasted until mid-August when it rained. The growing season did not show much difference in daytime and nighttime temperatures, which resulted in lighter and lighter wines.
