Wine Dievole, “Le Due Arbie” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, 2018

Introduction

“Le Due Arbie” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – fresh and intriguing, elegant dry red wine with expressive accents of ripe red fruits typical of Sangiovese, a worthy addition to the “Le Due Arbie” collection. The grapes are grown in the vineyards of the Chianti Classico zone at an altitude of 300-420 meters above sea level. The vines are cultivated on the southern and southwestern slopes with loamy clay soils rich in limestone and marl. The average age of the vines is 18 years. The yield per hectare does not exceed 70 centners. Harvested at the moment of optimal maturity, the grapes are fermented in concrete vats for 2 weeks at a controlled temperature of about 28 C. The wine is aged for 18 months in large unburned oak barrels. After bottling, the wine matures in bottles for 4 months.

2018 has been an exceptionally good year for Tuscany, according to most experts. Despite some problems, such as torrential rains and hail, which damaged the Sangiovese vine patches, favorable summer weather with hot days and cooler nights produced a strong and healthy harvest. This season’s red wines showed juicy fruitiness, good acidity and structure.

Dievole Estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, about 12 km northeast of Siena, 56 km southeast of Florence and 1 km from the small village of Vagliagli. On an area of more than 400 hectares, there are forests, hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, as well as typical Chianti farms. Villa Dievole (the name supposedly comes from “Dio vuole”, meaning God), which is now in the center of the estate, has an ancient history. It was built as a residence for a noble Tuscan family back in the distant eleventh century, when the Dieulele vineyard was planted in this area under divine protection. Since that time, 15 generations of owners have been making wine.
In 1986, at the age of only 21, Mario di Dievole became director of the family company. He concentrated his main efforts on the production of wine of the highest quality. Already in 1989, the first wine Dievole Chianti Classico was released on the market. In addition to excellent Chianti wine, Dievole now also produces young white, ros and red wines, as well as some “Super-Tuscan”. The estate plantations cover 150 hectares and consist of 16 separate vineyards, each of which has its own unique microclimate, and the wines born from them are expressions of different tastes and styles.
