  • Rosso di Montalcino – the younger brother of Brunello di Montalcino – a delightful Tuscan wine, widely known in sunny Italy and far beyond. It is home to a small region of Montalcino, in the district of which grow excellent vineyards, high-status DOC. Wine made from Sangiovese grapes, which is almost synonymous with the red wines of Tuscany. This variety is valued for its good acidity, firm tannins and balanced flavor and aroma. The average age of the vines is 15 years. Harvest from vineyards harvested by hand. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 25 to 28 C lasts 12-15 days. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for 12 months, and then some more time in the bottle. Although the production of Rosso di Montalcino not necessarily soaking it in oak, however, such an extract softens the strong tannins of a young Sangiovese and gives this red wine complex aroma and rich flavor.

Tenuta Il Podzhone was founded by Francesca family in 1800, when the head of the family, Luigi Francesca visiting Montalcino, was fascinated by the majestic scenery and bought land here. One of the greatest achievements of the family was realizing the potential and Sangiovese wines from it – have been carefully selected and planted in suitable soil clones of Sangiovese, the most suitable for the production of quality wines. Under the direction of Luigi were carried out to protect agriculture from the mold using modern methods. He also built a winery with the latest technology of the time, without losing sight of tradition and uniqueness. At the moment, this family business run by the descendants of the founder, the couple Leopoldo Franceschi and Libya.
Agriculture occupies a total area of 590 hectares in the southern part of Montalcino, near the Maremma. 125 hectares brought to vineyards occupy 70 hectares of olive groves. The basic philosophy of the company is meticulous care of the vineyards – as the key to the production of great red wines. In Tenuta Il Podzhone practiced method of diversified agriculture where alternate different cultures, vineyards, as well as allowed in harmony with the earth to live wild animals. In addition, constantly monitors the health of the vineyards and monitoring needs of soil nutrients, which makes it possible to obtain excellent wines even in less favorable years.
