Dry red wine “Greenock” Shiraz, 2011 abounds tones of ripe red and black fruit, spice notes are underlined and well-integrated minerality. Shiraz grapes to create this monosortovogo wine was harvested from the vineyard in Greenock. The first vine Shiraz in this vineyard were planted in the 1800s. Today, members of the sixth and seventh generation family Kalleske carefully and painstakingly cared for these vines.
2011 was the wettest since the creation of the first vintage of this drink in 2002. Also, it was a very cold year, resulting in delayed ripening for three weeks. But thanks to the weather conditions, the level of natural acidity and freshness of the grapes was very high. The crop was harvested in separate batches from 1 to 8 April. After gathering the grapes were fermented in open tanks for 8 days. Pumping the wort is carried out manually twice a day. Then pressing and must have passed was separated from the grape skins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels. Wine aging for 18 months in oak barrels produced. The wine was bottled without filtration.
The family owns vineyards Kalleske in the Barossa Valley in South Australia since 1853. All these years, they are leading in the region, and their harvest is always excellent. Vines vary in age – from the old ones, which were planted in 1875, to a relatively young fifty years. In the vineyards using organic methods, so the yield is low. Kalleske are active practitioners of sustainable agriculture and guardians of the land. They not only want to save the environment, but also to improve it for future generations. With the first release of wine in 2004, Kalleske quickly gained a reputation for producing high quality wines, and diversity that demonstrates their excellent grapes, is simply amazing.
