Wine Sportoletti, Assisi Rosso DOC, 2020

Introduction

Delicious, juicy, inviting wine “Assisi” Rosso created with the famous winemaker Ricardo Kotarella mixture of classic red varieties – Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet grown in vineyards around the hills of Assisi in Umbria. Vineyards occupy 8 hectares and is located at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. Sandy soil region containing highly porous layer of marine sand-lime deposits. Stocking density of vines is 5,000 plants per hectare, with an average age – 19 years. The grapes are harvested in the middle and the end of September. Each variety vinified separately. After desteblyatsii berries placed in a temperature-controlled vats, where maceration is carried out for 10-15 days with regular pumping and delestazhem. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for several months in French oak barrels and then another 6 months – in bottles. Wine storage potential – at least until 2016.

Many generations of families engaged in Umbria Sportoletti agriculture and viticulture. In the late 1970s, the brothers Ernesto and Remo Sportoletti decided to turn its attention exclusively on the wine industry, which their father had taught – Vittorio Sportoletti. That’s when they put on the market the first thousand bottles under its own brand. Since then, the brothers had done tremendous work in search of the perfect balance between innovation and tradition and the ability to fully realize the potential of their terroir – the hills of Spello and Assisi. It is on these hills vineyards of the family, which now occupy 20 hectares. Brothers were gradually upgraded vineyards, leading to more efficient and improve the quality viticulture. Thanks to successful plant breeding and implementation of the “Cordon”, controlled by the amount of the kidneys and hence productivity of plants. The company also produces organic olive oil. They are a beautiful grove of olive trees in 2500 located at an altitude of about 500 meters on the slopes of Monte Subasio. Sportoletti winery produces four wines: “Assisi” Russia, “Assisi” Grechetto, “Villa Fidelia” Bianco “Villa Fidelia” Rosso. The volume of production in the last ten years was about 200,000 bottles a year.
