“Le Due Sorelle” Brunello di Montalcino Riserva – a great red wine from selected Sangiovese grapes grown on the estate of La Fugue at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level on the south-western slope of Montalcino near the village of Camigliano. The grapes are harvested by hand in full maturity during the month of October. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 C for 20 days. Wine is aged for 5 years, including at least 24 months in Slavonic oak barrels. Vintage 2009 has a great storage potential of at least 30 years.
Tenuta La Fuga is located in the historic district of Camigliano, south-west of Montalcino. This property is owned by the sisters Fabia Cornaro del Aqua and Giovanna Cornaro Folonari, respectively the wife Ambrogio and the mother Giovanni Folonari. The estate of La Fugue is the smallest in the Folonari group; it has 9.8 hectares of vineyards, which are closely located to the sea. The soils of the sites are rich in fossils and the remains of the now extinct Monte Amiata volcano. Tourists from all over the world regularly come to Villa La Fuga to admire the beautiful scenery and taste the best wines.
The wine history of Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari began at the end of the 18th century with Fratelli Folonari, which took on the mission of improving the production of wines and distributing the best wines of Italy around the world. Since that time, the company has had many ups and downs, different owners, but still the Folonari is one of the most representative wine companies in Tuscany. In 1912, Ambrodzho’s grandfather, Italo Folonari, and his brother Francesco bought out the Tuscan company Ruffino, famous for producing Chianti wine in a straw bottle. In the late 60s, the Folonari family sold the company Fratelli Folonari, which produces mainly table wines, and began to specialize in estate-bottled wine making.
In 2000, Ambrogio separated himself from Ruffino and founded Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute holding with his son, which included the best farms in Tuscany:
– The estate Tenuta La Fuga, which produces wines of Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino;
– The estate Tenuta di Nozzole, which produces wines of Chianti Classico, Supertuscan and Chardonnay;
– The estate Tenute del Cabreo, producing Supertuscan wine;
– The estate Conti Spalletti, which produces wines of Chianti Classico, Chianti, Rosso Toscano;
– The estate of Ronco dei Folo, which produces Ribola Jalla, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Friulano and Scioppettino wines;
– The estate Tenuta Campo al Mare, producing wines Bolgheri, Vermentino and Rosato;
– The estate Tenuta TorCalvano Gracciano, producing wine Nobile di Montepulciano, Rosso di Montepulciano;
– The estate Tenuta Vigne a Porrona, which produces the wines of Montecucco, Morellino, Syrah, Merlot.
Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari wines have a modern style, with each of the wines having a pronounced territorial individuality.
