“John Riddoch” Cabernet Sauvignon – first produced in 1982, this wine was conceived as the flagship of Wynns. John Riddock himself was a true visionary. Among his many achievements are the construction of the Wynns Gabled winery and the creation of the Coonawarra Fruit Colony. “John Riddock” Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in small quantities from the best berries grown on the red soils of the vast Coonaworth plantations in the heart of South Australia. Vinification of the drink takes place according to the traditional method of creating dry red wines. The wine is aged for 15 months in French barriques and hogsheads, 35% of which are new, the rest are 2-3 years old. The potential of the wine is at least 10 years.
Winter and spring precipitation in 2018 in Kunavorra was heavy, 20% above the long-term average. The winter was cold, which provided a good period of “rest” for the vine. The summer was warm, so the verazon (colour change) passed two weeks earlier than usual. Moderate March temperatures extended the ripening period. Thus, Cabernet Sauvignon for “John Riddock” was collected mainly from the last week of March to the second half of April.
